Contra Costa County Public Works in the City of Martinez has started construction on two major projects. The new County Administration Building, and the nearly completed new Public Safety Building and Emergency Operations Center. 

Pavement Rehabilitation Work on Kirker Pass Road

September 2, 2020, Concord, CA – Pavement repair work is scheduled to begin as part of the Kirker Pass Road Northbound Truck Climbing Lane project on Kirker Pass Road. Work will start on September 7 , 2020 at 9 p.m. both day and night. By 11 September 2020 at 4 p.m., without exception to unexpected circumstances. Work will take place on both the north and south lanes, between the City of Concord / County limits to about 4,200 feet north of the North Hess Road Intersection, about 1.6 miles long. Work includes grinding and substituting for asphalt surface course. Work is planned to minimize impacts during commute hours. Electronic message boards alert drivers to the work being scheduled. Drivers should reckon with delays. The current protocol to distance society will be observed.

The Kirker Pass Road Northbound Truck Climbing Lane project will improve safety and reduce congestion along Kirker Pass Road from the Concord Pavilion to the northern intersection of Hess Road by constructing a northbound truck climbing lane. Pavement widening will occur to provide a 12-foot truck lane and 8-foot paved shoulder on the east side of the roadway. The widening will require six retaining walls adjacent to the roadway. The project also includes paving the north and southbound lanes between the limits of the City of Concord / County to about 4,200 feet north of North Hess Road. The total length of the project is roughly 2 miles.
