What Can You Do With Old Toner?

It’s no secret that you can make money out of your unwanted unused toner. But did you know that you can also cash in on your used toner cartridges? Even if it’s a humanitarian thing to do and recycle your toner cartridges for free, it doesn’t hurt to throw some cash into the mix. You can choose to sell online as many companies offer free shipping or in-store shipping as some stores offer in-store credit. Fortunately, there are many convenient solutions for recycling cartridges. Read on to find the best way for you.

Contact a remanufactured cartridge supplier.

Locate companies in your area that will take your empty toner cartridges back and use them to make other cartridges. Some of you may be paying for those empty toner cartridges, so you might end up with a little extra money in your pocket.

Many remanufactured cartridge suppliers resell refurbished cartridges as remanufactured toners. These remanufactured cartridges are usually of the same quality as the original cartridges, but at a fraction of the cost.

Send them back to the manufacturer.

Please contact the toner cartridge manufacturer directly. Many major brands have their own toner recycling programs, which include taking back used toner cartridges and reusing or recycling them into other products.

Donate to the charity.

Check with your favorite charity to see if it accepts donated toner cartridges. You can also search online for any local groups, such as reBOOT Canada, that will donate proceeds from your recycling efforts to the charity.

Return empties to your supplier.

Most companies that sell ink and toner (including Office Interiors) will either recycle used cartridges or provide instructions on how to recycle them themselves.

Big retailers like Staples, Office Depot and Costco have specific programs to support the recycling of empty ink and toner cartridges. Some even offer reward systems that allow customers to save on future purchases by recycling their used products.

Consider refilling your original brand ink cartridges.

If you have the original ink cartridge that you used only once, there is a very good chance that you can refill and reuse the cartridge with the correct ink refill kit. Most of the refill kits include a bottle of ink, a syringe, a screw tool, plastic gloves and refill instructions. You will need to inject the appropriate level of ink into the cartridge manually to refill it. Once the cartridge is at capacity, you should be able to reuse the cartridge and print it as expected. Be sure that the refill kit you purchased is intended for your specific cartridge series, the refill instructions and the ink capacities vary across the brand and the cartridge type.

Make some extra cash of your own or fundraise for your school, church or nonprofit.

Earning extra cash with the eCycle Group ® is easy. Just collect at least 20 items or 20 pounds worth of qualifying product, print your free shipping label, and send out your empty cartridges. The eCycle Group works with thousands of businesses, schools , churches and non-profit organizations across the country, with many organizations using the service as a fundraising opportunity. They even offer a number of free fundraising tools directly on site, including flyer templates and tips for a successful recycling campaign. In order for your cartridges to be accepted, they must be included in the pre-approved recycling price list and received in good condition. If you are mailing cartridges, be sure to wrap each cartridge individually in a bubble wrap or a newspaper to minimize transit damage. Keep in mind that the company accepts only original brand cartridges, the damaged and remanufactured cartridges are not eligible. Checks are issued on a monthly basis and profits range from between.23 cents to $9.00, depending on the cartridge.
