Lime Ridge is located on the eastern side of Walnut Creek, on a predominant ridge that leads to Mount Diablo. It includes some of the last remaining chaparral from Walnut Creek, and a rich diversity of animal and plant life. Lime Ridge gets its name from the field that was quarried from the limestone by the Cowell Portland Cement Company. There are many opportunities for hiking , biking, and watching the wildlife through various populations of plants and quarries. Portions of Lime Ridge are governed within the City of Concord by The City of Walnut Creek.

Dogs?

Yes, although leash rules vary depending on what section you are in and rangers recommend dogs remain on leash at all times.

In the field around the North Lime Hill, north of Ygnacio, dogs must always be under positive voice and sight command or leashed at all times. Dogs chasing cattle can be a serious issue because cattle graze in this area. There have been some negative dog vs. coyote encounters recently when dogs stray too close near dens.

Within the middle portion of Lime Ridge south of Ygnacio no dogs are allowed at any time. It is the immediate area of Lime Ridge Wildlife Preserve. Dogs are once again allowed south of the Preserve but only on leash.
